Nursery rhymes are so cool

Nursery rhymes are part of our culture and have been passed down through the generations.

Remember all the old favourites from when you were little?  Apparently Nursery Rhymes are too old fashioned for modern kids, according to young parents and many don't think they have  any educational value. 😕

Big mistake!  They are so important for language, literacy and communication skills.

"The general public may see reading as a primary visual process, but actually the ability to listen and discriminate between sounds in language is an important predictor of children's later success in learning to read, and of course rhymes can play an important part in that" ( Prof. Roger Beard, Department of Education, UCL)

Young children love to sing and if you add some actions, you're bound to get them joining in.  There are lots of traditional rhymes and fun action songs too.  Saying that you can't remember any is no excuse!!  Try toddler groups, libraries and You Tube to connect with all those rhymes and songs you learnt as a child and probably sang with your own children.

Grandparents get your singing voices out and recite, sing, and do all the actions!  See your little grandchild's face light up as they realise that you're cool, talented and so much fun.  Soon you will be putting on shows for the rest of the family and maybe You Tube too! ⭐
